Agricultural Livestock Cooperative of Western Greece (AKSDE) is a cooperative founded in 2004 by livestock farmers from the Agrinio region, with the aim of improving the productivity, sustainability, and competitiveness of sheep farming through training, technical support, and the adoption of modern farming practices. The Cooperative plays an important role in supporting local sheep production, particularly the Friesarta breed, by promoting genetic improvement, better herd management, and the production of high-quality milk and meat. Through collaboration with farmers and agricultural stakeholders, AKSDE contributes to strengthening livestock farms, improving economic efficiency, and preserving valuable indigenous genetic resources. Its activities support the modernization and long-term development of the sheep farming sector in Western Greece.
Role in the project
FRIZARTA supports access to commercial Frizarta sheep herds and supports the implementation and validation of breeding protocols and strategies. Acts as a major end-user and demonstration partner.
