Agricultural University of Athens (AUA), through its Laboratory of Animal Breeding and Husbandry within the Department of Animal Science, conducts research in livestock production systems, animal breeding, genomics, animal welfare, and the quality of animal products. The Laboratory combines expertise in management, ethology, physiology of productive traits, and population and molecular genetics to advance sustainable livestock production. Its research focuses on the analysis of phenotypic and genetic data and the evaluation of traits related to animal resilience, productivity, and adaptation to changing environmental conditions. Through its multidisciplinary approach, the Laboratory contributes to the development of innovative solutions for improving livestock sustainability and welfare.
Role in the project
AUA collects large-scale phenotyping, genotyping, and milk production data from Greek sheep herds. Responsible for the acquisition and integration of meteorological data to support climate modelling and genotype–environment interaction analyses.
