Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) is a leading provider of scientific research and services in agriculture, animal health, food, environmental sciences, and biosciences. Sponsored by the Department of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs (DAERA), AFBI conducts purpose-driven research to develop innovative, scalable solutions for challenges across the agri-food sector. With seven research sites across Northern Ireland and extensive scientific expertise, AFBI collaborates with government bodies, industry, and research organisations at national and international levels. Through its multidisciplinary capabilities, AFBI supports sustainable development, knowledge transfer, and the advancement of science-based solutions for agriculture and the environment.
Role in the project
AFBI leads the bioinformatics work package. Coordinates and supports bioinformatics analyses across partners, including integration of genotype–phenotype data and conversion of results into practical applications. Responsible for large-scale genotype data collection in UK herds and for providing production and greenhouse gas emission parameters.
